We have an excavated basement with breezeblock walls [completed 2009 - all expensively and professionally done], lined with drywall. We've recently noticed a small damp patch on the drywall; around 200mm by 100mm of the drywall looks affected, although about 20mm by 20mm is damp to touch. It doesn't appear to be spreading, and there aren't any signs of mould yet - but it needs to be dealt with. It looks like there could be a crack in the breezeblock structure, as there are some signs of mild settling [e.g. small cracks in the concrete floor of the basement], which might be letting water in - or it could be something else. The work will involve identifying the source of the problem, fixing it and then reinstating drywall etc. as necessary. I've added a photo of the problem area.
