Ceiling crack after water leak

A kitchen above leaked and caused the ceiling below to crack as per photo. The leak presumably happened over several days. The crack is about 40cm long. There is no bubbling. I need the ceiling repaired, maybe either cut out and replace with plastering board, or plastering, sanding and painting over with the same white colour.
