Repair ceiling hole in apartment unit

As part of the recent fire safety compliance changes I had to move the sprinkler in my apartment. The people who came in to move the sprinkler instructed me that they do not fix the hole they create so now I have a gaping hole in the ceiling that requires gib board to be placed inside and plastered. No painting for the timebeing. The hole is about 30cmx30cm currently but may need to be cut wider to be cleaner to fix. I already have the gib board if that helps.
