Job description

Aircon & Heat Pump Installation
Mount Albert, Auckland

Published on 19 January 2025

We would like to get 'guesstimate' quotes for the installation of a ducted heat pump and a heat pump hot water system in our house in Mt Albert, Auckland. The work will probably also require either modifications or replacement of our existing switchboard. At this stage we are not looking for a 'best price' quote because we can't describe the exact scope of the work, so we would like to hear price estimate ranges at this stage. We are mostly interested in hearing from people who have a lot of experience in doing this type of work. We are open to getting the three components of the job done by separate companies but it would obviously be easier if someone could do the whole job. The three components of this work are described below. 1) Ducted heat pump We have a 1920's villa which is about 140 sq m which we would like a two-zone ducted heat pump installed in. There is a living and sleeping area of the house which can be separated from each other so it makes sense to have two zones. You can see this separation in the photo where there is a sliding door in the middle of the house. The house is elevated off the ground by at least 1 metre in all places, so it should be possible to put the units and ducting underfloor (but we would obviously take your opinion on this). The house has floor and ceiling insulation and we have just double-glazed the whole house. We think that only half the house has wall insulation in it. The bathrooms have their own heating and so don't need any ducting/heating. 2) Heat pump hot water system The house currently runs on a gas continuous heating hot water system and we would like to replace this with a heat pump hot water cylinder. This would be installed externally and there is a logical place for this to go already. 3) Electrical switchboard upgrade/replacement The current switchboard in the house doesn't have any spare slots for new electrical equipment, so it probably needs to be upgraded or replaced. We are also likely to put in an induction cooktop and an EV charger at some stage in the future, so space is needed for these.

Joel and his team at Space Air Services did an outstanding job installing a ducted heat pump in our 1920s villa. It wasn't a straightforward install because of the age of the house, but Joel went out of his way to make the process as seamless as possible. He helped arrange other tradespeople that were needed for the project and was always friendly, helpful and informative. We now have a well-performing heat pump system and part of me is even looking forward to the winter just to feel it doing it
