2x baby gate installation

Need assistance in properly installing two baby gates (already purchased) as don’t want to cause damage to stairway bannister/kitchen unit. Semi-permanent extension of bannister may be necessary to properly install the gate in the stairway (see photos). We would also like a gate at the entrance to the kitchen if possible.
