Drill a hole in bench - wood

We're fitting a new tap and have had someone come to drill a hole in our stone countertop. Unfortunately they didn't drill the hole down into the wood: we simply need the hole continued down into the wooden part of the bench. Its a hole of approx 50mm diameter. The tap is supposed to be fitted tomorrow so if anyone can do this today, that would be much appreciated!
