Small paving or concrete job and render #2

I'm looking to tidy up up this area, which is a storage space underneath concrete outside stairs, the area is about 1.5 x 3m. I want the area to be more functional and dry. I'm thinking paving/tiles or concrete but am open to ideas, the ground is mud. Job will include doing something about exposed concrete on the underside of the stairs (which is very ugly, rough) - for this I am thinking a basic render or similar to seal it up. Flexible on time frame.
