Plumbers left hole in ceiling

Hi, plumber came to investigate leak on ground floor. He cut out circa 40cmx40cm hole from ceiling gib under the upstairs shower. Hole needs to fixed - plastered and painted (clean cut, have got the gib piece to put back up. And I have got the matching paint.) Please see photo of hole. Before closing up hole, need to put up some support under the shower tray - installer cut too big a hole and the tray is not well supported, so risk of cracking later on.
