Repair to macrocarpa bench

A macrocarpa bench has been chipped. The bench is a large slab that has been cut and shaped to fit the kitchen. I can't remember the exact final measurements, but it's about 2500 x 700mm. The chip is not that long, but it's deep enough to have gone through the seal so it will be a mess if water gets under it. It may be necessary to remove the bench and sand the whole thing back then reseal it all and bring it back to reinstall - your advice on whether removal of the bench is necessary would be appreciated.
