Sand wooden floors

Job description

Carpet Laying
Wellington

Published: 3 November 2013

Hi We have a 1950s home in Karaka Bays, Wellington 6022 with lovely (rimu?) floors underneath carpets (and, we hope, under the lino in the kitchen plus bathroom). We're looking for someone to prepare then sand and varnish the floors in most of the rooms of the house - probably 100 square meters all told. In at least two locations we would like particle boards replaced with matching (again, we assume rimu) floor boards before the sanding, etc. starts. Because we have some modifications being done to the house around March next year, we'd like the work done in two stages: bedrooms, hallway and bathroom now; then the remainder (lounge room and kitchen) later. But we're welcome advice on whether this is the best approach, including for keeping costs down. We can do most of the basic preparatory work (carpet removal, most nails taken out) ourselves. We'd be interested in hearing about sand/dust free options but not essential. What matters most is quality of finish and price. Thanks, - Paul and Arwen
