We have patches of our hardwood floor that have rotten boards or plywood sheets instead of native tongue and groove. We want to get these replaced with (close enough) matching hardwood before refinishing them. The tongue and groove flooring is matai, and the house dates to around 1920. The hallway has one 17x20 inch plywood board next to a narrow board that has created a gap in the floor. The main room has some particle board running along one side of the room, which is 15 inches wide. We would be happy to have this replaced with boards running lengthways instead of widthways, to make the job quicker and easier. The main room also has some narrow strips of particle board and a rotten board towards the end of the room, where an extension was added. The wood in the extension is newer, from the 1980's, but is also hardwood. There is at least one other plywood board, about 17x20 inches, in the kitchen that will need replacing. We're not expecting to achive a seamless, brand new finish with the floor. We instead want to be sympathetic to the age and history of the house, and show off as much of the original flooring as possible.
