checking heavy duty pergola for safety after wind damage

during night of 25th a significant piece of timber came off my pergola.inspection shows some rot contributed to this. I would like the pergola checked further for rot and if present how this affects the integrity of the structure. .Since the pergola borders a shared driveway i don't want my neighbours exposed to risk of further falling timber. Had this happened in daylight and i was underneath it i most certainly would have received a serious injury.It may be the only way to ensure safety is to do some demo work but perhaps if possible keeping some portion of it for later reconstruction. Note: the pergola is not a stand alone structure.with wind a fact of life here i would like an early response for everybody's peace of mind
