Weatherboard tidy-up

Job description

House Repair & Maintenance
Wellington

Published: 10 September 2016

I'm looking for a handyperson who'll do an excellent job of very small cosmetic/tidying work on the weatherboard exterior of my 1929 bungalow, prior to getting in the painters. The house is in good condition, and weathertight, I don't necessarily need a licensed builder for this work - just someone who knows their stuff and takes pride in their work. Thanks.

I advertised for someone with skill and high standards. Oli took care, but was quite slow for his hourly rate, and didn’t have the skills to complete a job. When I gave him feedback he said I couldn't expect excellence and efficiency. He wouldn't use a tarpaulin to catch wood shavings. Learning about client relations would be helpful. He sourced best prices for materials, communicated well, and turned up on time. But I paid more than if I'd used my usual registered (but unavailable) builder.

Tradesperson reply
"Some of the expectations of the client here were unrealistic and unreasonable. I explained to Glenys why I couldn't do a certain job (baseboards surrounding electrical, gas and plumbing services) but she was obviously unsatisfied with this. I couldn't use a tarp to catch the wood shavings as it was really windy on this day and the tarp was blowing everywhere, as were the wood shavings. overall I didn't enjoy working for Glenys, she demanded 'perfection' at a low cost and in a small time frame."
