Cracked roof batten

One of our roof battens has cracked/splitted over halfway through. We need to have this repaired/strengthened rather urgently due to safety reason, as we will also have roof leaks repaired (which will be dealt with separately in the near future). We have asked around for advice, and at this stage we prefer strengthening the batten using galvanised steel instead of adding another piece of timber. However we are keen to consider any ideas/options you may have.
