Custom bookcase/shelving unit

We want to build a bookcase/shelving unit approx 1.2m high in an L shape to cover up the hole where our fireplace used to be. Haven't decided on the material yet. The unit will need a backplate and probably a base and will have different size gaps for the shelves. We have a rough plan of what we would like.
