Assistance with assembling backing boards for bookcases

I have three bookcases that came with three cardboard backing boards that I decided to replace with wooden panels instead. I cut the wooden boards to the correct width and depth and I have already painted them, but I've had difficulty fitting the backing boards in place and I need them to be either nailed or screwed down so that the furniture becomes one piece.
