Replacing wooden cladding on second story gable end

There is a leak coming in from the south gable end of my house. The wooden cladding (horizontal shiplap timber) is cracked in places. The timber is most likely douglas fir and is 35 years old. This timber may need to be replaced. This in on the second/third story of my house so will need scaffolding to work on.
