Job description

General Building

I'm needing to remove large rotten window, see image. I'm sourcing a panoramic type window the length across the house but only maybe 800-1000mm high. I'll sit on the upper end of the wall. The rest of the house will be weather board.

Sadly it was not to the level of quality I had expected and wished for. Mike used TradeMe second hand weatherboards without my prior consent - blood boiling already. When I asked for the remaining to be new boards...the profile was incorrect. I've noticed this once the job had been completed. So some have a sharp bottom to the board and the ones butting up have rounded ends. Super p*ssed off at that. The finished detail work was poor, so poor I will spend hours fixing the gaps and need tubes and tubes of no-more gaps for the scribers. I didn't like the fact he used nails to attach the gib inside, I stopped his tradesman who was first day on job with no building skill and got him to use my gib screws instead. I felt he was taking the easiest and cheapest options on most things. A bit of detail decorative piece of wood that is under the window wouldn't fit, it broke when he was inserting it, so he said I didn't need it anyway - yes I did, which is why he was putting it in in the first place so I'll do it myself when he's gone as he wasn't going to do it. Mike sadly complained about most things on the job; it didn't keep the work place clean as I had to clean up nails and sharp bits at the end of the day so the kids didn't get nailed. When you have a house you value, you want to maintain that value and to have work that is substandard is unfair. I gather Mike has a lot of years in the trade and I feel if he slowed down and took attention to detail he would do a good job, sadly for my house, this was not the case. Another quote was $1000 more, I would've paid the extra to get a much better attention to detail and better end result. I have a lot of patch up work and vacuuming to do.

Tradesperson reply
"There's no pleasing this guy. They were not second hand boards used, only old stock. The newer boards were slightly different as from a different mill. A bit of an exageration about all the no more gaps needed on the scribers. Nailing Gib is normal practice, especially as they were also glued. We made every effort to keep the place safe and clean, it was after all a work in progress. what does he expect. Even took his rubbish to the tip both times. Said he was on a really tight budget too. You were asked about the vacuuming and turned it down."
