Piling problem

Job description

General Building
Auckland

Published: 10 September 2009

We have an old house (1904) which I understand has been re-piled within the past 10 years or so. A small section of floor appears to be suffering at the hands of the pile directly under it. The floor above the pile is now a high spot - so either the pile is lifting (surely unlikely?) or all the other piles around the one pile are dropping. In any case, the wooden floor is noticeably raised - one can even see the gaps between the floorboards are increasing as the pressure comes on from below.

Workmanship
5.0

Based on David's extremely thorough and obviously expert advice, I decided to postpone the floor repair until I was able to determine the cause of the raised pile. David spoke to me for some 40 minutes, in extreme detail and with great attention to the facts, before advising me to monitor the situation rather than jumping in feet first without truly understanding the problem. Unlike many other builders who just want the work, David listened and advised - which resulted in him not earning anything from the job. However, given his attitude, I would definitely place David as my first person to call for the next building project. In addition, a few days later, a 2 page report on our conversation arrived by mail. The report included detailed advice on how to monitor and attempt the first stage of the repair. I was truly amazed.
