Asbestos inspection and removal on ceiling.

We have speckled powder like ceiling all throughout our house. It was built in the 1980s and are the third owners. We weren't given any indication that it may be asbestos on purchase but as the years go by, some of the 'powder' has come away from the ceiling and we would like to know whether it is dangerous and how much it would cost to have removed.
