Project

State Home

Project description

The brief was to bring new live into an old state house. Update and reconfigure the internal spaces, insulate and double-glaze. Keeping the layout simple and making better use of the site.

Our response was to move the living and kitchen to the west for afternoon living and views to Saddle Hill. We worked with the current footprint and added a deck. The owners have lived in the house for 20 years so they had a pretty good feel for how the site works. All other internal spaces were reconfigured and the covered porch was kept as a nod to the dwelling’s past. Happily, the entire foundation system was also retained.
The kitchen and dining were opened up with a cathedral ceiling and multiple skylights allowing for plenty of natural light, accessed via lobby from the front entrance they serve as the central focus for daily living with the bedrooms and bathroom situated at the other end of the house.
