By using my decades of design and building experience I can guide customers through the design process, helping them to make informed decisions about planning, materials, fixtures & fittings, and the myriad of other issues that they are unaware of prior to beginning the process. Often customers have little idea of scale, practicality, flow, aesthetics, but they do have the invaluable knowledge gained from living in their property. By combining their knowledge and goals with my design and construction experience I can help them get the very best results without spending large amounts of money in the process.
The winner of not one, but three, Auckland Registered Master Builders Association “House of the Year” Gold Medals, I bring a wealth of expertise to each project I take on. With a practical design focus, complimented with building and carpentry skills, I have also undertaken several renovation projects of my own over the years. This experience has instilled a strong understanding of how the industry works, and empathy for people going through the renovation design & build process themselves. Having personal experience means I can identify with people’s wants and needs, their aspirations and fears, and can bring ideas to life to ensure the renovation process is not only successful, but enjoyable as well.

17 John Brooke CrescentThe Owner wanted to upgrade the existing Kitchen and Bathrooms in a 25 year old home. In the Kitchen we installed ceramic floor tiles, an engineered stone benchtop, new insert sink, gooseneck mixer, underbench water filter, a new electric hob and ceramic splashback tiles. The existing cabinets had been resurfaced prior. In the Bathroom and Ensuite everything was stripped out and replaced, with wall mounted melamine cabinets and ceramic benchtops, ceramic floor tiles and splashback tiles. All fixtures and fittings were updated. New showers and a small, elegant freestanding bath replaced the dated old ones. A couple of matching shelves help to soften the environment. The lighting throughout the house was upgraded to LED's, along with a fully ducted air-conditioning system. As a side project we installed a low block retaining wall garden edge, and honed pavers and a timber screen around the rubbish & recycling bins. The Owner preferred an understated colour palette, yet the selection of materials and finishes has created a light, bright environment which is easy to keep clean. Customer comment: Ross was wonderful to deal with, full of great ideas. I felt confident to trust him and left him to get on with the job. I'm delighted with the finished product and I am enjoying living in my new home. It's everything I ever wished for. The customer has a large outdated Ensuite/Bathroom in a family home on a bushclad site in the Waitakere Ranges, and wanted to bring it up to date incorporating a suitable aesthetic developed through plenty of research. Green ceramic wall tiles were a must-have item, but they were open to all suggestions to achieve the overall look they were after. The preliminary design options presented included alternative floor plan layouts and colour schemes. They wanted to stay with the existing layout and chose to go with Scheme A but with the wood-look ceramic floor tiles of Scheme C. This has been one of our most rewarding Bathroom/Ensuite Renovation Projects as the working relationship between the Customer and Designer was on the same path right from the start. Customer Comment: “Ross was a pleasure to work with, clear communication and hit the brief.”
The Owner wanted to upgrade a tired Laundry in a Garage. This required a new supertub, new cabinets, and a new access stair from the Kitchen. The existing washing machine and dryer were re-used and positioned to maximise the space. The colour palette from the existing house was continued through with mid-grey stone-look ceramic floor tiles, black and white stone-look laminate benchtop, and black subway splashback tiles with contrasting white grout. The stair treads and handrail are dark stained solid timber with melamine risers and screen panels to tie in with the new cabinets. We proposed a couple of alternative layouts for consideration, and worked with the Owner to tweek the scheme to her preferences. This was a very successful working partnership and the end result is striking yet functional. All-in-all, everybody involved are very happy with the completed project. Customer comment: “Fantastic result!! I'm very happy with the new laundry and it exceeded my expectations. Ross's build and architectural expertise combined with a solution design approach, has resulted in a really excellent outcome. High attention to detail and great to work with as well. Very happy with the process and highly recommend.” Design & Construction - Ross Dustin Construction - Karl Henare & Neville Orpen Electrician - Neville Orpen Plumber - Lyndsy Warder
