Bathroom window

Hi, During the big downpour on Wednesday night and the gutters were overflowing the water started pouring in our bathroom window (yes it was shut!), this happens on rare occasions, but we would hate it to happen when we weren't at home - the damage could be horrendous. We were wondering if we need to extend window flashing or something. Any advice we would be grateful. Cheers.
