Our granny flat is very damp. If i dont run the dehumidifier constantly in our bedroom, mould grows on our clothes in the wardrobes. When we have moved furniture we discover the carpet underneath has rotted away. Carpet is wool. FLOOR is concrete. Last winter the carpet at floor level at bottom of internal staircase was soaked. ALSO last winter discovered rotten carpet under our bed when i removed a plastic shoe storage box stored there. I,M concerned for our health as i have coughing fits at night in bed. I think it is a reaction to the damp. The house is 2 storey built into the side of the hill. We live on the lower level. We want to renovate but can't start until we get some professional advice as to WHY this is happening and HOW TO FIX IT.
