Old brick chimney leak

Our house has an old brick chimney which has been covered up indoors by a previous owner. After the heavy rainfall this past month, moisture is noticable on the plaster board covering the old furnace box. We'd like to weather proof the chimney and replace the affected plaster board/damaged materials. Timeframe: September 22
