I am hoping to get advice around the construction of a retaining wall and whether I require a consent. I have purchased a sloping piece of land and will be putting a 2nd hand house onto it. I have to cut and fill the land and at its deepest am looking at a 3 metre-ish drop. I was going to terrace two retaining walls and put gardens or lawn in between with about a 2-3 metre gap between them. There is a slope above the top retaining wall. Looking at legislative commentary, on the --- site, it says a terrace is okay (but not the distance between the two which is required) and that I may need a consent if a slope is above the top retaining wall unless it is only gently sloping (I don't know what gentle means. In this case it is on a boundary and has a farm race but isn't a driveway. It will be 2 metres from the boundary, again I don't know if this would be considered surcharge. I do have a geotechnical report and it is 'good ground'. What are my option around a consult etc?
