New handrail

Job description

Handrails
Wellington

I need a handrail to be fixed on the staircase going down to my basement. It would have to be wooden to match the rest of the house.

The work was good, but the result not quite what I wanted. There was a misunderstanding concerning the colour of the handrail. I wanted it to look as similar to the balustrade of the staircase as possible. In fact it wasn't. I didn't realize that the choice of pine instead of rimu meant that it would look quite different. I will have to finish it off with polyurethane to try and make it darker and shiny. It would have been nice to have a sample of the end result before making choices.

Tradesperson reply
"An unfortunate mis-communication around the choice of timbers has meant the client is not 100% happy with the end result. I provided 2 quotes - 1 using Pine and 1 using Rimu (Rimu being the existing handrail). The client chose the Pine timber and as a result is unhappy with the finish in terms of the way it matches the existing handrail. I have offered to return free of charge to apply a third Rimu stain to try to darken the handrail. "
