Re-modelled interior staircase

We have an old, worn interior staircase that we want re-modelled. The stairs are uncovered and the balustrade is wrought iron. We are wanting the stairs to be carpeted and filled in,the wrought iron painted black and a wooden hand rail put on top of the wrought iron. We would also like some ideas on how we could utilise the space under the stairs. Thank you!
