We have an exterior steel-framed staircase attached to a two story brick and tile townhouse built in 1975 that needs restoration and repair. The staircase is approximately 3 metres high from ground level to the second floor. Currently the bolts attaching the treads to the tread brackets are all rusted and there are signs of rust in other parts of the frame. The foundations of the posts bearing the top landing of the staircase may also need repair. The entire staircase and balustrade needs sanding, rustproofing and repainting. We expect the restoration and repair would include: -18 wooden threads would need to be removed, sanded and repainted (or replaced) -Re fixing of treads to brackets with new galvanised bolts -Packing washers may need to be inserted between tread brackets and treads for leveling (we will explain the need for this) -Sanding/ sandblasting, rustproofing and repainting of the frame and balustrade of the staircase -Repair foundations of posts as needed The townhouse is located in Onehunga and access to the staircase is good.
