Replace existing skylight with new one

Currently I have a room which has a fixed square-shaped dome skylight. The skylight I estimate is about 1.2m x 1.2m in size. There is a crack in it which has been patched over by the previous owner. What I'm wanting is for either a new skylight to be installed as a replacement or for the skylight to be taken of temporarily and a sheet of 10-12 mm thick perspex to be fixed to the opening and the skylight to be put back on. The main thing I'm trying to achieve is to have less noise come through the skylight.
