Rain downpipe

Have had a new rectangular down pipe installed. This is right outside our bedroom and when the rainfall is a certain rate we get dripping inside the pipe which hits a bend and makes a loud noise. OK with light drizzle and heavier rain, but bad with rainfall in between. I was thinking that if the down pipe was further out from the wall at the top the water would run down the sloping pipe rather than drip down. Or someone may have a better idea.
