Structural removal of post/exposed beam

a wall has been removed to enlarge the living area. However; there is a post/pole holding up the exposed beam between the two rooms. The post is about 500mm into the enlarged room. I want to find out if its possible to remove the post & possibly the exposed beam and what is needed to do the job. I have no idea of what to expect cost-wise and am wondering if I need to remove the concrete tile roof and replace with Colorsteel to lighten the load.
