Job description

New Cupboard Doors
Hamilton West, Hamilton

Published on 28 February 2023

The sideboard above a set of drawers in the bedroom has suffered from cat scratches and the sun (bleaching). It needs to be sanded back, stained and given some sort of protective coating (maybe). It is solid wood - rimu perhaps - and is about 2 cm thick. The total top is about 400 cm x 60 cm.

This job was a disaster. Our handyman, Chris, could not speak English and used a translator app on his phone. It was clear that he had not done this kind of work before and the result was worse situation than before he came. The job entailed sanding and recoating. The coating used left bubbles and stained the wood very dark. An attempt was made by him to improve the finish but left a terrible mess that is still sticky a month later. We agreed that no fee should be paid.

Tradesperson reply
"Sorry for the unsuccessful job. Our company specializes in new house construction and old house renovation, and we are very proficient in painting. However, we don't have expert experience with epoxy resin as a material. Its setting is affected by humidity and temperature. We are very sorry and willing to provide accessible solutions from professional epoxy resin companies. Our remedies are always open to you, even if you refuse them."
