Window sills renovation - cover with wood or a synthetic tile

I would like to know what options I have for covering the plaster finished window sills in a Grafton apartment. Not sure if this would be wood or some other material. Would like to have some level of water protection too from rain etc. If you can advise and are able to cover the window sills, I would like to hear from you.
