Soak pit installation

Job description

Drainlaying
Wellington

So the background is - in the process of getting a buchan trap replaced a couple of months ago we learned our storm water was directly connected to the sewer pipe leading out to the road. This must have been the case for at least twenty years (before we bought the house). Our drive slopes down from the road with the storm water collecting via a drain at the lowest point of the tar-seal drive. The guys that did the work on the buchan trap disconnected the stormwater from the sewer pipe which means that when it rains the water now pools at the lowest dip point of the drive (see one of the attached photos) - and slowly dissipates into the surrounding garden. We asked NZET Ltd to give us a design for a soak pit - which I unfortunately can't seem to attach to this work description but can send on request. Broadly the design is for one small sump with a grate at the lowest dip of the drive (Humes --- yard sump or similar) connected to a soak pit (1500 x 1500). It has been designed this way to make sure the soakpit is the proper distance away from the house foundations and boundary. Its easy access - all flat. There are no underground connections from the house or garage - the water will simply collect on the drive and go to the lowest point - where the sump will be. Hopefully this will makes sense when you see the design (which I can send). Call me if you need any explanation - --- The photos . . . the sump will be going at the spot where the existing round drain is (the lowest spot) and the soak pit slightly further up the drive away from the main road. It has been designed this way because of the need to place the soak-pit the right distance away from the boundary and house. The advice from NZET is we don't need a resource consent for this work - the reason being that there is already a soak-pit in the vicinity (you can see on the design) which isn't suitable (home made job probably twenty-thirty years ago). And so this will essentially be a replacement.
