Dishwasher re-piped correctly

I’ve just found our dishwasher water exit hose seems to be piped wrong. It is currently on the open side of the drain - not on the other side of the water trap created by the sinks drain plumbing. I googled what could be Causing the bad smell and this problem came up as an option and from what I can tell ours is piped wrong. Looks like we need a new fitting out of the sink and the dishwasher drain hose connected to it instead.
