pipe check and lapping hot water pipe cylinder 2

We replaced our hwc to main pressure one couple months ago. It works fine in the beginning, but I guess because the whether is getting cold, we just heard some noise from the pipe on above the celling. So basically the job we would like to post is do a general check about the pipe to figure out if anything goes wrong or it's just only due to heat/cold extension? The other main thing we wanna do is lapping the hot water pile to insulate it to avoid heat escape from the pipe, this might also help the extension as well.
