Advice on drain pipes and whether we need or can replace with new ones

We are currently painting our house and have 2 vertical drain pipes which run into the ground from the roof. We are wanting to know if these are required or whether we can replace them with new pipes. we also have another pipe which exits the kitchen outside the weatherboard and into the main drain - can we "tidy" this up?
