Ball Valve Install/Repair on Water Tank

Recently purchased the property. The water that feeds the house is from a water tank and pump. The water tank is filled from town supply. I would like a ball valve or something similar installed so I can leave the mainline filling the tank and not need to manually turn it off and on every couple of days, but so it will stop filling at a certain level, at the moment it overflows if you forget to turn it off.
