Toby valve leak

My toby valve (or fittings around it) has developed a leak. It is some way down and will require excavating to get to. While I suspect it's the valve, it could easily be roots getting into the fittings and I'm not game to explore that possibility. I estimate the valve is around 500mm below the ground surface. It has obviously been leaking unnoticed for quite a while, and there's no urgency for the repair.
