Water is rising in the kitchen sink, and not draining properly

The kitchen sink waste disposal unit has not been working for some time now, yet the waste disposal part of the sink has water very slowly rising, and the water needs to be routinely emptied out and into the main / larger part of the sink. I'm not wanting the waste disposal to be fixed, rather I'm wanting the water to drain properly and not rise as it has. Job needs to be done asap by Friday.
