Skim surface lounge walls for painting

I am currently redecorating our lounge and would like the wall surfaces skim coated with plaster to a paintable finish. A couple of the (approx 1/3 of total area) walls are quite rough and it is hard to work out where the paper ends and the wall begins - 60 years worth of varying layers of paper. I have taken off the top 2-3 layers of wallpaper and sealed the walls with pigmented sealer (sureseal). Have measured this up and the total surface area is 29.67 sq/m. Would like the walls skimmed to a paintable surface, and within a reasonable timeframe as I want to continue with the painting.
