We are getting a new splashback, and the current tiles are stuck on so hard that to remove them is going to make a very large mess. We think it is possible to cut out the plasterboard that the tiles are stuck to, and replace with new plasterboard. I had a go at removing a tile, and took most of the backing plasterboard with it. The house is steel framed, and the gib is held with screws. The layout photo shows the dimensions, and the area to be replaced. The catastrophe photo shows my muckup and one of the screws. The rangehood and sidebar photos show the cutaways.
