Job description

Plasterboard Installation
Hamilton

I recently had an old recessed gas heater removed and it has left an open cavity in the wall. The heater was installed on a ground floor interior hallway wall and had a vent which went through to the room on the other side, so there are two separate holes that need addressing. The cavity is quite large and will (probably) involve installing some new timber nogging, patching holes with new plasterboard on both sides of the wall, and plastering to blend the new plasterboard patches in with the surrounding wall (I'm planning on painting it later) . The dimensions of the largest cavity (where the heater was installed) is 420mm (W) by 1980mm (H). The dimensions of the smaller hole on the reverse side is 380mm (W) by 200mm (H) and is an irregular shape which will need to be squared off. I've provided images of both cavities. The home is a two story early 90's home, circa 1992. There is part of the gas flue system still inside the wall between the top of the open cavity and the second story roof cavity which is screwed into place and difficult to remove - it's our intention to leave this part of the gas flue inside the wall.
