Flea infestation & spider prevention

Hi, I'm really regular about flea treating my cats, but I've just been using the supermarket brands and they don't seem to have done a thing. I've ordered some better vet ones but there are so many fleas all through my house I just really don't know what to do. It's a small 1 bedroom 1 bathroom unit. I also have a pretty intense spider phobia so I'd really like to have some ideas on prices for those too. Any time/day is fine. Thanks!
