No more mud!

I have a grassed area approx. 2.4x14 m between the side of my house and a boundary fence that I would like cleared, weed mat or an appropriate alternative laid with stones as a top layer, with edging at the front where it will meet the lawn - 2.4m. My dog loves running up and down the fenceline playing with a young neighbour but he has made a muddy mess and invariably brings muddy paws into the house. I also have compost bins at the end of this area and it would be good to have the area be more serviceable, particularly in winter.
