Exterior paint repair - preparation and painting
Job description
Some of the paint on the cedar weatherboards of our house are pealing or bubbling, we think whoever painted it originally didn't use appropriate primer. We want the loose paint and a small area around it removed back to bare wood, primed with oil based primer or a specialist cedar primer, and painted. There may be a section about 3x3 meters that's quite bad to completely strip, as well as bits and pieces, based on your advice. We have paint that matches the current and the Resene formula to get more. This is 1-2 weeks work, and we would like it done by Christmas. We had a painter lined up but he booked a couple of big jobs before we confirmed and he can't do it within our timeframe. Once we find the right person / company we're ready to go. We can be pretty flexible with timings, fitting it in between other jobs, so long as the section is left tidy and the deadline is met. We're realistic about warranties given the nature of patching, a very short warranty could be acceptable. We don't need a perfect job particularly down the side of the house we never see, we're after a reasonable job that's weathertight. Single story house, but it's an older house that's quite tall. Access to the property is easy, section is level. One side of the house is a bit narrow, but the painter we had lined up seemed ok with it. Lead paint is a strong possibility, painter must take appropriate precautions.

We're very happy with the end result stripping and painting our house and would happily use them again,. Communication with the painters was difficult as they speak little English, so we had to talk via the manager. Comms with the manager were prompt, professional, and friendly. As with most tradesmen, some damage was done. Insufficient care was taken with PVC windows. They fixed most of the damage they did themselves, and paid for repairs to the rest, so we're happy with the end result.
