I have a cedar clad, self contained cottage on my property. I want to paint it to give it long term protection. It is 1 level high on 3 sides and 2 levels on the back side. I understand that to paint it that firstly a clean is required then undercoating to lock in any resin that bleeds from cedar wood and also to provide a good surface to apply the top coat of paint. I have spoken with Resene paints about what is required and their products for this job. However I'm sure other paint company's have similar products. I am wanting to paint it in the coming months mch/apr/may but timing is not too critical.
