Fixing Broken Bedroom Door Lock

I can't open my bedroom door. For some reason the tongue of the door won't come out of its groove. Something seems to be broken in between it and the turning mechanism of the door knob, because you can turn the handle but it has no effect on the tongue. It has a push-button locking mechanism on it, but it I hadn't locked it when I shut the door. Thankfully, I can get in and out through our attic, but it's a bit of a nuisance! As you can see, I took the door knob off to see if I could fix it, but clearly I can't.
