Lighting design

We have been renovating our house (built 1999) but are aware the lighting is dated (recessed) and not great in terms of the level of illumination. We would love to talk to somebody about alternatives. We have relatively low ceilings and tinted windows, which limits our options (although we would be happy to talk about removing the window tint, if that were possible).
